The theme which we chose is Word Food. The reason we chose this theme is that we got interested about the relation between food culture and people's values. And we think that we will introduce the food culture of a foreign country which we did not know. The greatest purpose of this presentaion is to avoid the collision related to food by understanding the food culture of a foreign country. Examination methods are the Internet, an interview, and a book.
We explain the taboo and difference of food culture here. Various taboos of food exist in the world. For example prohibition of pork,horsemeat,alcohol,…Especially we explain prohibition of pork and prohibition of horse meat . And we paid our attention to the difference of food culture. Our understanding to a foreign country deepens by getting to know strange food culture.
There are religions which forbid pork in the world. The pork is considered to be impurity in Islam and Judaism. In the city many Muslims live, restaurant have to get the certificate which shows not using pork for cooking . This duty is also imposed upon fast food restaurants, such as McDonald's and Kentucky Fried Chicken. Although we do not understand well , this is a very important problem for them. Collision may be occured from such a difference of view.
We find three important things through this investigation. First we find importance of understanding of the foreign food culture. Strange food culture exists in the world. The food culture which cannot be understood also exists. However, don't have prejudice against them because the prejudice causes collision. Second , It is important to confront Japanese food culture. We should confront the culture of our country, before understanding other culture. Third , consideration for foreigner is also important. Consideration for other culture is performed in various places. For example, Pork is not used for the in-flight meal of the airplane in the area many muslims live. An incident like lawsuit against Ajinomoto will arise, if there is no such consideration.
